One day in January 2011, Michelle and Ellen had an epiphany. There were very few women in the craft brewing industry and only three female-run microbreweries in the entire United States. Michelle and Ellen were going to change that. Not only did they both have decades of business management experience under their belts, Ellen had been homebrewing for over ten years and knew the process. The women invited their friend Jackie Hudspeth to join their venture and the dynamic trio got to work founding Bombshell Beer Company in September 2012 with Michelle managing sales, marketing, and long-term capital structure funding, Ellen heading production operations and accounting, and Jackie overseeing delivery.
Bombshell Beer Company is North Carolina’s first 100% women-owned microbrewery. The brewery features a production facility and a tap room with an outdoor beer garden that is family and pet-friendly. You are invited to bring your own food or order from one of Bombshell’s food truck partners while enjoying your pick of the 16 easy-drinking and approachable craft beers on tap. Wine, cider, and non-alcoholic beverages are also available. Before you leave, make sure to grab a six-pack, growler, or keg to go. Bombshell Beer Company currently packages and self-distributes their beer in more than 14 counties in North Carolina. The brewery has won more than 25 medals in International, National, and Regional Beer Competitions and in March 2020, they were recognized by USA Today as one of the ten best women-led breweries or distilleries in the world. Bombshell Beer Company plays an active role in nurturing a giving back culture in Holly Springs by holding charitable events where upwards of 15% of sales is donated. One of their favorite means to do this is hosting the popular Fundraiser Fridays where different charities use the day to orchestrate a fundraiser and Bombshell pledges a percentage of their sales.
